Happy Together 2017

In October 2016, I was deeply affected by the death of Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej. In my sadness, I felt the need to create something cheerful and uplifting that could express happiness. Through my own research, I discovered that sharing positive images, like smiling selfies, can have a genuinely uplifting effect on one’s mood. This resonated with me, and I began creating ‘selfie sculptures’ inspired by many of the selfies I found online.
I realised that the selfies that made me happiest often featured the 'V' hand symbol, which in Asia represents peace and happiness. Working with this symbol became my way of coping with the King’s passing and finding peace in my grief. Creating these ‘Happy Together’ sculptures not only lifted my spirits but also helped me feel more mindful, reflective, and appreciative overall.
