This Might Be The Place
2017
Hugo Mitchel Gallery, Adelaide
26 Oct - 18 Nov 2017
The work explores the concept of ‘place,’ focusing on what migrants bring from their homeland to ease the cultural shock of settling in Australia. Using porcelain and intricate cobalt blue brushwork, each sculpture is adorned with decorative elements from my imagination.
These figures evolve, adapting to their new cultural and environmental surroundings. The experience of being ‘in’ and ‘from’ a place is both physical and psychological. "This Might Be the Place" reflects my ongoing interest in the migration experience, blending nostalgia and familiarity with a playful, fun approach to adaptation and belonging.
