Biography

A Thai-born Melbourne-based artist, Vipoo Srivilasa is recognised as a leader in the field of contemporary ceramics. Over the past two decades, he has created a celebrated body of work that engages with complex questions of queerness, migration, and spiritual meaning, using an aesthetic that is accessible, positive, and beautiful.

His works frequently explore the dualities of experience, navigating isolation, loneliness, and nostalgia alongside joy, beauty, and hope. A vital part of his practice involves major interactive and participatory projects, such as his recent commission for GOMA Children’s Art Centre (2025) and upcoming projects for Dark Mofo and Rockhampton Museum of Art, which invite communities to express themselves through storytelling and clay.

Vipoo’s work has been shortlisted for the Archibald Prize (2025), the Wynne Prize (2026), and the Sovereign Asian Art Prize (2026). He has exhibited extensively worldwide, including at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Saatchi Gallery, London; Yingge Ceramics Museum, Taiwan; and the National Gallery of Thailand.

He holds a Bachelor of Art from Rangsit University, a Graduate Diploma from Monash University, and a Master of Fine Art and Design from the University of Tasmania.

Vipoo lives and works in Naarm/Melbourne, where his studio, ClayLAB, is situated in Cheltenham on the lands of the Kulin Nation.
