Water Spirit 2014
Northern Clay Centre, Minneapolis, USA
14 March - 14 April 2014
As the artist in residence at the Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis, I created ‘Water Spirit,’ a community-based project inspired by the city's lakes and rivers.
Through a series of clay workshops, I invited local residents to make underwater creatures in ceramic, drawing from the mythical water beings of their childhoods and cultural backgrounds. The challenge was to re-imagine these creatures as if they had adapted to life in Minneapolis' urban waterways.
The workshops fostered a strong sense of community, sparking meaningful discussions about environmental conservation and the impact of urbanisation on aquatic ecosystems, while producing unique and thoughtful artworks.
