This Might Be The Place 2017

Hugo Mitchel Gallery, Adelaide
26 Oct - 18 Nov 2017

Focussing on the word ‘place’, this body of work explores what migrants bring from their homeland to ease the cultural shock of a new country and to create a familiarity within their new home environment of Australia.

Using porcelain and detailed cobalt blue brushwork, each ceramic sculpture is covered with individual decorative elements from the artist imagination. Each figure seems to evolve and adapt to its new cultural, social, and environmental surroundings.

The idea of being ‘’in and ‘from’ a ‘place’, can be both a physical and psychological experience. This Might Be the Place continues Srivilasa’s interest in the migration experience with a sense of nostalgia and familiarity, while also being fun and playful.
