The Tangible Tales 2022

Art Jakarta 2022 , Jakarta
26-28 August 2022

The events experienced enroute by migrants as they travel from one country to another are tangible episodes in the story of their lives. New skills, knowledge and cultural exchange is combined with the national stories and beliefs of the migrant. Thai born and Melbourne based artist, Srivilasa finds multiculturalism a rich source of creative inspiration.

The Tangible Tale was presented at the Art Jakarta in August 2022, Srivilasa has created ceramic artworks based on characters from myths and stories from his Thai heritage with those from broader Southeast Asian literature. Here we see Garuda and Nagas cavorting with Srvilasa’s personal creative characters, such as ghosts, elves, and gods. Srivilasa’s imagination expands on existing myths, beliefs, and fables transforming them into ceramic scenarios engaged in epic battles, romantic love twist, and supernatural tales; all for the audience to appreciate and interpret in their own way.
