Hungry Ghost 2022

Scott Livesey Galleries 2022, Melbourne
9 Feb - 5 Mar 2022

2021 was the year that Srivilasa lost many friends. Expressing one’s emotions through artwork is a way of understanding the world and for some, a way of working through grief.  Srivilasa’s The Hungry Ghost series was a way for the artist to both understand his despair and optimistically view death in a positive way.

Srivilasa’s self-directed research explored other cultural traditions connected to death drawing parallel imagery from his Thai culture with Mexico’s The Day of the Dead and stories of Japan’s Oni (demons) and Yurei (ghosts).

In Thailand, we believe in spirit and ghosts. I try to imagine what they look like if they are happy.
