This exhibition depicts an uplifting story of how love can transcend the boundaries of culture, law, and tradition and marks an important milestone in fundamental human rights principal of equity in Australia.

The Course of True Love is recounted in ten narrative vignettes representing moments in world history that have contributed directly, or indirectly, to the acceptance of same-sex partnerships. The series was inspired by the successful referendum in Australia to pass same sex marriage laws in December 2017 making civil marriage available, without discrimination, to all couples, regardless of sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

Srivilasa chose to cast these relief sculptures in bronze for its metaphorical significance,

“I use bronze, a robust and permanent medium to symbolise the strong concept of marriage and a solid commitment a couple makes to each other. Bronze is also a medium for religious statues. It would represent the sacred concept of marriage in my work.” - Vipoo Srivilasa.
