"Hmi Buppha is a self-portrait work that, while technically excellent, did not take itself too seriously. I use blue and white colour as a reference to the export of ‘Blue and White’ porcelain from China to Europe which parallel to my own migration from Thailand to Australia, from east to west. The fine detail of the work represents my reclaiming of patience, concentration and focus, lost to the social media. In order to connect the work with the viewers, I used the bear-like form to create a sense of fun and friendliness, which was drawn directly from my own personality."
