เต่าแก้มเเดง Red-eared slider
A solo exhibition of Vipoo Srivilasa in Bangkok.
Subhashok The Arts Centre
2-30 April 2016

Opening night
2 April 2016
6.00 pm

“Srivilasa is intrigued by environmental pests. The anti-hero of his new series of sculptures is the red-eared slider turtle, native to the United States and feral in countries across the globe, including Thailand and Australia. Red-eared sliders typically make their way into new countries when traded under the guise of cute hatchlings. At maturity, however, they are unwieldy, aggressive pets, and are often released by their owners into local waterways, with disastrous consequences for native wildlife. These eleven new works—shrines, deities and hybrid inhabitants of a bungled ecosystem—reflect on the vexed relationship between humankind and the natural world.”
