arporn-ngam studioPeeramon Chomdhavat is one of Thailand’s leading
dance artists and costume designers. He has a strong
drive to succeed and to conserve the history of this
traditional Thai art form, in both performance and
apparel. The costumes, in particular, were researched
and reproduced in the same form as the elaborate and
delicate original works dating back a century. Following
the old designs, these magnificent, complex, radiant
works take him many months each to complete. As he has
developed his technique, his embroidery has become
smaller and more precise. His works are widely
appreciated and recognized as the pride of Thai culture. Aroirn-Ngam website : www.arporn-ngam.net |

Wat Rong KhunWat Rong Khun is an unconventional contemporary Buddhist temple in Chiang Rai, Thailand. It was designed by Chalermchai Kositpipat. Construction began in 1998 and, as yet, has no expected date of completion. Wat Rong Khun is different from any other temple in Thailand, as it is designed entirely in white with mirror decoration. The white colour stands for Lord Buddha’s purity; the mirrors stand for Lord Buddha’s wisdom that "shines brightly all over the Earth and the Universe."I visited Wat Rong Khun and the factory-like studio which produces the decoration for the temple. However, I did not meet the artist who designed the temple....maybe next time |

Kamin Lertchaiprasert"A committed Buddhist, Thai artist is concerned with combining the creative process involved in art-making with the daily rituals and disciplines underpinning his personal beliefs. Lertchaiprasert uses the daily rituals of reading, meditation and art-making to bring this balance into being. The installation is a poetic contemplation of a meeting between Buddhism and contemporary Thai experience. It exemplifies Lertchaiprasert's process-based art practice as it overlaps with his life and philosophy." Queensland Art Gallery Kamin works in a very big two-storey studio located next to his house in Chiang Mai. See some of Kamin work

Thepsiri SuksophaPainter, writer, illustrator he is a very famous artist in Thailand. However, he lives very simply and keeps a low profile. He works at home. In front of his house/studio there is a very large hall showing his work from the past. This hall is sometimes used as a small theater for emerging performance artists to show off their creations I was so lucky that day as he drew my portrait for me! |

C.A.P. studioAnother interesting space is Chiang Mai Art on Paper (C.A.P.), a printmaking studio and gallery established and run by artist Kitikong Tilokwattanotai, who experiments with innovative printmaking techniques and producing collaborative works with established artists. The studio also emphasizes training art students in the field of printmaking. Kittikong received a Master of Arts in Printmaking from the Collage of Fine Arts (COFA), so we share common ground and had an immediate rapport. He invited me to collaborate with him, and this resulted in a very beautiful blue and white mermaid print.Unfortunately I did not take many photos of his studio. I don't know why...maybe because I go there so often and keep putting it off until next time |

udom taepanichOne of Thailand's best-known comedians and artist. His work is very whimsical, but there's an underlying sadness too, as if you shouldn't laugh too long. He has a wonderful studio at home. Udom website : www.domcumentary.com |
